acupuncture face lifting

A major tenet of acupuncture is that to reflect beauty on the outside, you must be healthy on the inside. Cosmetic acupuncture is a unique method of facial rejuvenation based on this philosophy. And its popularity is growing among women in America.

Principles of acupuncture

For starters, here are the basics of acupuncture.

  • Blood and Qi flow.Acupuncture uses carefully-placed needles to promote blood flow and energy circulation. This energy is known as “Qi” or “Chi,” representing “the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical aspects of life,” according to the Web site, Acupuncture.Blood and Qi travel along channels and pathways throughout the body. When blood or Qi create blockages in certain parts of the body, it can have negative effects. Once these blockages are cleared, blood and energy flow improve, and well-being is restored.
  • Balance. Due to its holistic nature, acupuncture focuses on the body as a whole and on the systems working together. In other words, if one part of the body isn’t working properly, it can affect other parts and cause imbalances.

Common Use of Acupuncture

There is no one health condition or set of conditions that acupuncture is meant to treat. Instead, acupuncturists use the treatment for an extremely wide range of health conditions.

The use of acupuncture is not always based on scientific evidence. This means that practitioners may use acupuncture to treat a certain health condition, even though there have not been scientific trials showing that acupuncture works for that condition. For more information about the evidence on acupuncture and specific health conditions, see Evidence for acupuncture.

Sometimes, patients combine acupuncture with conventional treatments that have been prescribed by a GP or hospital consultant. If you are being treated by an acupuncturist for a health condition, it is advisable to discuss this with your GP. Read more »

Acupuncture – Evidence (NHS)

http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Acupuncture/Pages/Evidence.aspx

There is some scientific evidence that acupuncture is effective for a small number of health conditions. However, for the majority of conditions for which acupuncture is used, the scientific evidence is inconclusive or there has been no attempt to collect good-quality evidence. For a small number of conditions, there is evidence that acupuncture does not work.

More research is needed into the effectiveness of acupuncture on a wide range of conditions.

It is important to remember that when we use a treatment and feel better, this can be because of a phenomenon called the placebo effect and not because of the treatment itself. Read more »

Acupuncture makes a dream come true…

Shropshire Star, Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Anita Hunter though she would never have children. And after failed fertility treatments, the 33-year-old from Shrewsbury almost gave up hope. “Then I started having acupuncture,” She says. “Six months later I was pregnant.”

Remarkably, Anita is not alone in having frustration turn to joy by the Chinese practice of having needles inserted into the skin. In the space of 18 months, a total of five women who thought they would never have kids fell pregnant after treatment from the same Chinese acupuncturist – Dr Daian Zou, based in St. John’s Hill in Shrewsbury.

BBC News 1 December, 1999

Acupuncture does have real health benefits, two separate studies have found.

German scientists tested the therapy by treating one group of patients with acupuncture and another with a fake procedure designed to simulate its feel.

Those patients who received the real therapy showed much bigger improvements in their health.

Doctors support acupuncture

BBC News 25 June, 2000,

Access to acupuncture for NHS patients should be widened, the British Medical Association (BMA) says.

The association is calling for nation-wide guidelines on use of the treatment following research which suggests it is successful in easing back and dental pain, migraine, nausea and vomiting.

BBC News 18 November, 2001

Acupuncture can improve the prospects of people with severe heart failure, research has shown.

Researchers found the ancient Chinese practice has the potential to dramatically reduce the pressure on the heart.

This is because it can reduce activity in the sympathetic nervous system, which regulates involuntary movements such as heartbeat and blood pressure. Read more »

I have polycystic ovary syndrome, which has always given me problems with irregular periods and mood changes. The acupuncture treatment provided here helped regulate these symptoms visibly: my periods finally were regular and my mood changes were under control. Dr. Zou always provided tailored treatment to my circumstances (where was I in the cycle, body temperature or anything else I might have been experiencing at the time). I sincerely appreciate her help, knowledge and professionalism. Istead of focussing on a series of symptoms, Dr. Zou provided an integrated and tailored treatment approach focussing on the root of the problem and offered advice for my day to day. Her expertise helped me regulate my periods and, with that, I also felt more in control of my day to day for the first time. Thank you.

I have benefitted from Dian's treatment physically and mentally for many years and, as 'an older person' she keeps me fit and active. She is also a kind and caring person.

I sought help for unexplained infertility, and Dr Zou asked me to give her three menstrual cycles. It was either this, or starting medical treatment. Sure enough, I am writing this with a 4 month pregnant belly! She was professional, kind but, most of all, she held me accountable for making sure I was listening to what my body needed. She told me about my body type and what it can and can't handle and gave me advice on what to do outside of acupuncture to further my progress. Within just a cycle or two my fertile signs had dramatically improved already. Thank you so much!! Can't wait to meet my baby!!

I broke my wrist just after Christmas. I had surgery and excellent treatment from the NHS. I did all prescribed exercises but did not regain full feeling in my fingers. My doctor told me that I may have severed a nerve and there was nothing that could be done. I am a strong, fit, active 76 year old grandmother who can touch type and loves to sew, craft and cook. A friend recommended Daian. Thank goodness I took her advice and had a course of treatment. I now have full feeling and strength back. It’s hard to believe the fracture ever happened. She is an excellent practitioner and a charming, intelligent, sympathetic person. I have had acupuncture in the past and greatly appreciate her skill.

I first received acupuncture when on a cruise last autumn and my back went causing great pain. I was surprised at how effective it was. On a recent trip to see my sister in Shropshire the pain returned and I saw Dr Zou several times. She was excellent and the pain reduced considerably. I have no hesitation in recommending Dr Zou. She was really caring and knowledgeable and imparted her knowledge to both my sister and myself. It was so helpful and we are following her advice. I have booked to see her again when up in Shrewsbury again.

I went to see Daian a few months ago due to health problems caused by recent bereavement. I was suffering from anxiety and insomnia not responding very well to medication. I started seeing results after just a few acupuncture sessions and now I am anxiety free and able to sleep well without any medication. I found Daian to be a very experienced and knowledgeable practitioner, who takes the time to explain everything and to answer any questions I may have. She is friendly and kind and was very patient with me at times when I was very anxious. I feel she has given me my life back and I cannot recommend her highly enough.

What Our Patients Say

  • ~ Gwen Box – Feb 2012

"I first consulted Daian after a knee injury which conventional medical care had failed to improve. After acupuncture treatments, the knee steadily got better and has now healed completely. Since than, I hace continued with regular acupuncture treatments in order to maintain good health and physical well-being. I can thoroughly recommend Daian's practice and therapies."
